About Us
Strong Refrigeration Consultants Inc. is a Canadian-based consulting engineering firm established in 1981. Over the past four decades, we’ve developed industry-leading expertise in refrigeration systems for industrial, commercial and recreational facilities.
Alex Repski
M.Sc, P.Eng
As president, Alex is carrying on the Strong Refrigeration Consultants legacy of integrity, quality and customer service established by Ron Strong and Wendell Marshall. Alex has a broad range of experience, from refrigeration plant design (including artificial ground freezing refrigeration modules, meat packing plants, cold storage, hockey rinks & refrigeration plant retrofits) to providing contractor support during construction of refrigeration plants, to commissioning support during refrigeration system startups, safety audits, energy studies and refrigeration plant capacity audits. He has also developed as-built drawings, operating and maintenance procedures for existing refrigeration plants.
Alex joined Strong Refrigeration Consultants in 2015, two years after graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (with great distinction). He launched his career in refrigeration engineering by earning his Masters of Science (Mechanical Engineering) in optimizing the refrigeration systems used for artificial ground freezing at Cameco’s Cigar Lake Uranium mine in Northern Saskatchewan. Alex’s research was funded by an NSERC IPS scholarship
Alex continues to develop his expertise in refrigeration engineering, applying his skills to feasibility studies, budgetary designs, detailed designs, retrofits, advanced troubleshooting, energy studies and refrigeration plant upgrades. He has completed ground up designs in both brown field and green field environments.
Wendell Marshall
Wendell Marshall works with recreational facilities on mechanical refrigeration and heat recovery systems, and with cold storage & food processing companies on technological advances in cold storage warehouse buildings and mechanical systems. As a resource person, he has helped develop training courses for plant operators as well as standard operating procedures, equipment audits and reporting systems for refrigeration systems.
Wendell has been with Strong Refrigeration Consultants since 2013, bringing over 30 years of industrial refrigeration experience to clients in industrial and commercial sectors. His wealth of practical knowledge makes him an invaluable member of the Strong team and a respected and sought-after consultant in the industrial refrigeration sector.
Wendell got his start as a refrigeration and mechanical technician in the Canadian Armed Forces. In the private sector, he became a Red Seal certified Refrigeration Mechanic and moved up the career ladder into management. He spent 11 years as director of engineering services with VersaCold Inc. and 7 years as a consultant before joining Strong Refrigeration Consultants.
Ron Strong
B.A.Sc., M.E., P.Eng.
Ron founded R.H. Strong & Associates in 1981, which became Strong Refrigeration Consultants Inc. in 2006. Ron brings over 50 years of industrial refrigeration experience to clients and has been responsible for the design and commissioning of a wide variety of refrigeration systems across Canada, the United States and around the world.
Ron’s interest in industrial refrigeration began at the University of British Columbia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for a refrigeration contracting firm for several years before becoming a refrigeration consultant in 1976, a role he continues to play today.
Ron shares his knowledge through publications, courses and lectures. He wrote the course manual for the BC provincial government certification program for refrigeration plant operators as well as several guides to energy management commissioned by BC Hydro. He has acted as an advisor to BC Hydro as well as a resource person to the Canadian Initiative for Industrial Competitiveness, where he provided technical advice and assistance in designing refrigeration systems for under-developed countries.
